Camshaft: Removal and Installation: Removal
- Release the fuel pressure (LH only). Refer to FUEL PRESSURE CHECK: VQ40DE
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal. Refer to [BATTERY: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ].
- Remove front wheels and tires. Refer to [BALANCING WHEELS ].
- Remove front fender protectors. Refer to FRONT FENDER PROTECTOR: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Remove intake manifold collector. Refer to [Intake Manifold Collector: Removal and Installation ].
- Remove rocker covers. Refer to [Rocker Cover: Removal and Installation ].
- Remove front timing chain case, camshaft sprocket, timing chain and rear timing chain case. Refer to [TIMING CHAIN: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ] and [Rear Timing Chain Case: Removal and Installation ].
- Remove camshaft position sensor (PHASE) (right and left banks) from cylinder head back side.
CAUTION:
- Handle carefully to avoid dropping and shocks.
- Do not disassemble.
- Do not allow metal powder on magnetic part at sensor tip.
- Do not place sensors in a location where they are exposed to magnetism.
- Remove intake valve timing control solenoid valves.
- Discard IVT control solenoid valve gaskets and use new gaskets for installation.
- Remove camshaft brackets.
- Mark camshafts, camshaft brackets and bolts so they are placed in the same position and direction for installation.
- Equally loosen camshaft bracket bolts in several steps in reverse order as shown.
- Remove camshafts.
- Remove valve lifters, if necessary.
- Identify installation positions, and store them without mixing them up.
- Remove timing chain tensioner (secondary) from cylinder head.
- Remove timing chain tensioner (secondary) with its stopper pin attached.NOTE: Stopper pin was attached when timing chain (secondary) was removed.
- Remove timing chain tensioner (secondary) with its stopper pin attached.
