Removal & Installation (Grand Vitara, Vitara & XL-7)

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Remove rear brake drum. See REAR DRUM . Disconnect brakeline from wheel cylinder, and plug openings. Remove 4 backing plate-to-rear axle housing bolts.
  2. Using Adapter (09943-35511) and Slide Hammer (09942-15510), remove rear axle. Remove oil seal from axle housing. On XL-7, remove old sealant from backing plate and axle end. On XL-7, apply NEW sealant (99000-31110) on backing plate and axle end before installation. To install, reverse removal procedure.
