Lower Arm Ball Joint Breakaway Torque

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

After shaking the ball joint stud several times, use Preload Socket (MB991006) to measure the breakaway torque of the ball joint. See Fig 1 . If the breakaway torque is not 0-35 INCH lbs. (0-3.9 N.m), ball joint is difficult to turn, or if the ball joint does not turn smoothly, replace the lower arm assembly.
