Front Axle Shaft Bearing/Oil Seal: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki XL-7, 2004 Suzuki Vitara, and 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clean axle shaft oil seal, and then apply lithium grease. See Fig 1 .
  2. Check axle shaft oil seal for breakage or deterioration. Replace it as necessary.
  3. Install axle shaft bearing (1) with bearing installer (A) (on left hand side). See Fig 2 .
  4. Install circlip.
  5. CAUTION: Use the L stamped of oil seal installer (B) for oil seal side. Otherwise, the oil seal can not be installed properly.
  6. Install axle shaft oil (1) onto left axle shaft case (2) of axle housing by using oil seal installer and bearing and oil seal handle. See Fig 3 .
  7. Install axle shaft seal (1) onto right side of axle housing (2) by using oil seal installer and bearing and oil seal handle for Grand Vitara and Vitara and (D) for XL-7. See Fig 4 .
  8. Install left axle shaft.
  9. Install left side strut. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
  10. Install axle shaft assembly. See FRONT AXLE SHAFT  .
  11. Fill specified differential gear oil into differential case. See appropriate DIFFERENTIALS & DRIVE AXLES article.
