- Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
- Inspect belt for cracks, cuts, deformation, wear and cleanliness. If any defect exists, replace belt.
- Check belt tension. If belt is too tight or too loose, adjust it to specification by adjusting alternator position. Belt tension ("b") should be .35-.43" (9-11 mm) under 22 Lbs. (100 N) of pressure for used belt and .28-.35" (7-11 mm) under 22 Lbs. (100 N) of pressure for new belt. See Fig 1 and DRIVE BELT SPECIFICATIONS table.
- Tighten alternator adjusting bolt and pivot bolts.
- Connect negative battery.
