Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Suzuki XL-7 and 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect lower contact coil connector, located at base of steering column. Connect BASE OF COLUMN connector of Load Tool (09932-75010) to harness side of lower contact coil. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTC's. If DTC B1025 is current, go to next step. If DTC B1025 is not current, go to step  3.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect load tool. Disconnect SDM connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure voltage between ground and SDM connector terminals No. 9 (Green wire) and No. 10 (Green/Red wire). See Figure. If voltage is less than one volt, substitute a known-good SDM and retest. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in Green wire or Green/Red wire. See WIRE REPAIR .
  3. Disconnect load tool and reconnect lower contact coil connector. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect STEERING WHEEL connector of load tool to upper contact coil connector (in place of air bag module). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTC's. If DTC B1025 is current, replace contact coil. See CONTACT COIL & COMBINATION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DTC B1025 is not current, replace driver-side air bag module.
  4. Reconnect all components. Using scan tool, clear DTC's. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTICS.
