Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Suzuki XL-7 and 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Pull top of glove box outward while depressing stops. Allow glove box to fall toward passenger seat. Disengage CPA clip and disconnect connector for passenger-side air bag module. See Figure.
  2. Connect STEERING WHEEL connector of Load Tool (09932-75010) to harness side of passenger-side air bag module connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTC's. If DTC B1018 is current, go to next step. If DTC B1018 is not current, replace passenger-side air bag module. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect load tool. Disconnect SDM harness connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between ground and SDM connector terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure. If resistance is infinite, go to next step. If resistance is zero ohm, repair short to ground in Yellow/Red wire. See WIRE REPAIR .
  4. Measure resistance between ground and SDM connector terminal No. 8 (Yellow wire). If resistance is infinite, substitute a known-good SDM and retest. If resistance is zero ohm, repair short to ground in Yellow wire. See WIRE REPAIR . Reconnect all components. Clear DTC's. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSTICS.
