Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition off. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Remove driver-side air bag module and steering wheel. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE & CLOCKSPRING . Remove center console. See CENTER CONSOLE . Remove clock trim panel. See Fig 1. Remove clock. Remove center air outlets. Remove driver-side instrument panel side trim and instrument cluster bezel. Remove instrument cluster.
  3. Remove hood lock release handle. Remove parcel box. Disconnect floor and junction block wire harness connectors. Remove driver-side knee bolster. Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
  4. Remove cables from air conditioning control assembly. Remove air conditioning control assembly. Remove audio unit. Remove center lower panel, accessory socket, lower box and center lower cover. Remove scuff plates. Remove backbone spacers. Remove glove box stopper and glove box. Remove passenger-side knee bolster and brackets.
  5. Remove left and right instrument panel end covers. On models with stereo amplifier, remove DIN connector. On all models, disconnect roof wire harness connector, ground, instrument panel, body harness, steering shaft, stop light switch and SRS ECU connectors. Remove steering shaft mounting bolts. Remove instrument panel mounting bolts. Remove instrument panel.
  6. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate air bag system.
