Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. If scan tool, displays any other DTCs preform appropriate test before proceeding. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no other DTCs are set, start engine and allow it to idle. Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . Using scan tool, monitor specified DTC parameters. If scan tool displays DTC P1134 FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P1134 FAILED THIS IGN, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Check exhaust system for leaks. If exhaust leak is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  4. Visually inspect Bank 1 HO2S-1 for secure installation. Check for poor, loose or corroded HO2S terminals. Check for poor, loose or damaged terminal connections at HO2S and PCM harness connectors. Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in wiring between HO2S and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If a problem is found, go to step  7 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  5. Disconnect Bank 1 HO2S-1 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 1 (Red wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Measure voltage between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 2 (White wire). Voltage readings should be between 3-4 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, leave harness connector disconnected and go to step  8 .
  6. Using fused jumper, jumper between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminals No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 2 (White wire). Using scan tool, observe Bank 1 HO2S-1 voltage parameter. If voltage parameter displays less than 10 mV, and immediately jumps to 450 mV when jumper is removed, go to step  10 . If voltage parameter is not as specified, go to step  9 .
  7. Repair fault as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  8. Turn ignition off. Check for poor, loose or damaged terminal connections in PCM harness connectors. See Figure . If a problem was found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, connect PCM harness connector and go to next step.
  9. Repair open, shorted or grounded signal circuit. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  10. Remove Bank 1 HO2S-1. Check for signs of fuel contamination, improper use of RTV sealant (white powdery coating on sensor) or engine oil/coolant consumption. If signs of contamination were found, go to step  12 . If no problem is found, go to next step.
  11. Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  12. Replace Bank 1 HO2S-1. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
