Diagnostic Procedure

- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- If scan tool, displays any other failed DTCs preform appropriate test before proceeding. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no other DTCs are set, start engine and allow it to idle. Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . Using scan tool, monitor specified DTC parameters. If scan tool displays DTC P1133 FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P1133 FAILED THIS IGN, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Using scan tool, select LAST TEST FAIL function. If DTC P1153 or P1154 were displayed, go to step 11 . If neither DTC was displayed, go to next step.
- Check exhaust system for leaks. If exhaust leak is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat test starting in step 2 . If no exhaust leak is found, go to next step.
- Visually inspect Bank 1 HO2S-1 for secure installation. Check for poor, loose or corroded HO2S terminals. Check for poor, loose or damaged terminal connections at HO2S and PCM harness connectors. Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in wiring between HO2S and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Disconnect Bank 1 HO2S-1 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 1 (Red wire). Measure voltage between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 2 (White wire). Voltage reading should be 3-4 mV. If voltage is as specified, go to step 9 . If voltage is not as specified, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check for poor, loose or damaged terminal connections in PCM harness connectors. See Figure . If a problem was found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, go to next step.
- Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in Red wire (HO2S low signal) or White wire (HO2S high signal) between PCM and Bank 1 HO2S-1. See Figure . If problem was found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM White 32-pin harness connector C-2. PCM is located under center console in front of shifter. Check for short to each other in Red wire (HO2S low signal) and White wire (HO2S high signal) between PCM and HO2S. If a problem was found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem was found, connect PCM harness connector and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, observe Bank 1 HO2S-1 voltage parameter. If voltage parameter is 430-470 mV, go to next step. If voltage parameter is not as specified, go to step 12 .
- Replace Bank 1 HO2S-1. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
