Circuit Description
PCM has 4 individual fuel injector driver circuits. Each driver controls a fuel injector. When fuel injector driver circuit is grounded by PCM, fuel injector is activated. PCM monitors current in each fuel injector driver circuit. Voltage on each fuel injector driver is monitored to detect a fault. If voltage is not what PCM expects to monitor, appropriate fuel injector DTC is set. DTC is also set if fuel injector driver circuit is shorted to voltage.
When DTC sets, PCM illuminates MIL as soon as fault is detected. PCM will store conditions present when DTC was set as freeze frame data in the FAILURE RECORDS data. Vehicle will operate in open loop mode only.
PCM will turn MIL off on third consecutive trip cycle during which diagnostic runs and fault is no longer recognized. A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive trip cycles during which diagnostic runs and fault is no longer recognized. DTC can be cleared with scan tool, or by disconnecting battery voltage feed to PCM.
