Diagnostic Procedure

- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature of 167-203°F (75-95°C). Apply parking brake and increase engine speed to 1200 RPM or more for 3 minutes. Using scan tool, observe Bank 1 HO2S-1 voltage parameter. If voltage parameter varies above and below 400-500 mV, go to next step. If voltage parameter remains fixed at about 400-500 mV, go to step 4 .
- Turn engine off. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, read and record FAILURE RECORDS data. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAILURE RECORDS data. Using scan tool, monitor specified DTC parameters. If scan tool displays DTC P0134 FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P0134 FAILED THIS IGN, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Check Bank 1 HO2S-1 wiring harness for damage. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Check for poor or loose terminal connection in Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connectors. See Figure . If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM White 32-pin harness connector. PCM is located under center console in front of shifter. Check for poor or loose terminal connections in PCM harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance in White wire (HO2S high circuit) between Bank 1 HO2S-1 and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If resistance is .5 ohm or more, repair open circuit or poor connection as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If resistance is less than .5 ohms, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance in Red wire (HO2S low circuit) between Bank 1 HO2S-1 and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If resistance is .5 ohm or more, repair open circuit or poor connection as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If resistance is less than .5 ohms, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Connect a jumper wire between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 2 (White wire). Using scan tool, observe Bank 1 HO2S-1 voltage parameter. If voltage parameter is 10 mV, go to next step. If voltage parameter is not as specified, go to step 11 .
- Replace Bank 1 HO2S-1. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
