Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor: Installation

- Install a new "O" ring (2) with engine oil applied to CMP sensor (1). See Fig 2 .
- Install CMP sensor (1) to camshaft (3). Fit the dog of the CMP sensor coupling (2) into the camshaft slots when installing. The dogs of the CMP sensor coupling are offset (A). Therefore, if the dogs cannot be fitted into the slots, turn the CMP sensor shaft by 180 degree and try again. See Fig 3 .
- Temporarily hand tighten the CMP sensor (1) bolts (2).
- Connect CMP sensor coupler.
- Check and adjust ignition timing according to IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT. See appropriate article.
- Tighten CMP sensor (1) bolts (2) to specified torque. See Fig 4 and TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table
- Install a new "O" ring (2) with engine oil applied to CMP sensor. See Fig 2 .
- Install CMP sensor (1) to camshaft (3). Fit the dog of CMP sensor coupling (2) into the slots of camshaft (3), when installing. The dogs of CMP sensor coupling are offset. Therefore, if the dogs can not be fitted into the slots, turn the CMP sensor shaft by 180 degree and try again. See Fig 3 .
- Tighten CMP sensor bolt (3). See Fig 1 and TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect CMP sensor coupler (2) to CMP sensor (1). See Fig 1 .
NOTE:
After installing CMP sensor, adjust ignition timing. Refer to IGNITION TIMING
in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article.
