Cold (Fast) Idle: Aerio
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Suzuki XL-7, 2003 Suzuki Vitara, 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara, and 2003 Suzuki Aerio. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Fast Idle Air (FIA) valve is controlled by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). FIA valve supply by-pass air into intake to increase engine idle speed when engine is cold. Inspect fast idle speed as follow:
- Ensure engine temperature is 77°F (25°C) or less. Use scale and mirror to measure plunger protrusion "a". See Fig 1 . Plunger protrusion "a" length should be 1.048-1.078 in. (26.6-27.4 mm).
- Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. After engine warm-up and coolant temperature is 126-154°F (58-68°C) or higher, check and ensure that fast control cam is not touching cam follower lever. See Fig 1 . If malfunction is found, replace throttle body assembly. See THROTTLE BODY & INTAKE COLLECTOR under AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article.
