Removal (Eclipse 3.0L & Galant 3.0L)

- Remove under cover. Remove coolant reservoir. Jack up engine until there is no weight on front engine mount bracket insulator. See Fig 1. Remove suction hose, engine mount stay and engine mount insulator bolt. Remove engine mount. Loose generator drive belt tensioner pulley nut "A" and bolt "B". See Fig 2. Remove generator drive belt. Remove oil level gauge unit. Disconnect generator connector and remove generator. See Fig 3.
- Using Crankshaft Pulley Retaining Tool (MD998715 and MB990767) remove crankshaft pulley. See Figure. Remove power steering pump tensioner pulley. See Fig 4. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers. Remove engine support bracket. Turn crankshaft clockwise to align each timing mark and to set cylinder No. 1 to compression top dead center. See Fig 5. If timing belt is to be reused, chalk an arrow on flat side of belt, indicating clockwise direction. Loosen center bolt of tensioner pulley. Remove timing belt. Remove clip and crankshaft position sensor. See Fig 6.
