Removal (Eclipse 2.4L & Galant 2.4L)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, 2003 Mitsubishi Montero, 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer, and 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE: If timing belt is to be reused, mark arrow indicating direction of timing belt rotation using chalk.

Remove coolant reservoir. Jack up engine until there is no weight on front engine mount bracket insulator. See Figure. Remove front engine mount insulator bolt. Remove front engine mount. Remove power steering pump and generator belts.
Remove water pump and crankshaft pulleys. See Fig 1. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers. Turn crankshaft in forward clockwise to align camshaft sprocket timing marks. See Fig 2. Loosen tension pulley fixing bolt. Move tension pulley toward water pump. Remove timing belt. Remove power steering pump pressure hose and tube assembly. See Fig 3. Remove power steering pump assembly and bracket. Remove crankshaft position sensor.
