Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If air bag diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If air bag diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Turn ignition switch to ON position and observe AIR BAG warning light. If light flashes a DTC pattern, go to next step. If light does not flash a DTC pattern, replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check air bag monitor coupler. See Figure. If coupler has a jumper wire between terminals No. 1 and 4, remove jumper wire and go to step  5. If coupler does not have a jumper wire, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect SDM connector. See Figure. Measure resistance between SDM connector terminal No. 30 and ground. See Figure. If resistance is less than one k/ohms, replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step. If resistance is one k/ohms or more, a short to ground condition exists in Violet wire. Replace wiring harness and go to next step.
  5. Reconnect all air bag system components. Using scan tool, clear all DTC's. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
