Diagnostic Aids

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport, 2002 Isuzu Rodeo, 2002 Isuzu Axiom, and 2002 Honda Passport. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Check for foreign material stuck between EGR valve pintle and seat. Inspect EGR valve for excessive carbon deposits on valve shaft, which may cause sticking or unsmooth valve operation.

An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed-through wire insulation or a broken wire inside insulation. Inspect harness connectors for backed-out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wire connection, and damaged harness. Using scan tool, monitor ACTUAL EGR POSITION and wiggle harness and connectors. A change in voltage will indicate area of problem. If DTC cannot be duplicated, check scan tool FAILURE RECORDS to determine mileage since last DTC was set.
