Diagnostic Procedure

- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
- Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Apply parking brake and increase engine speed to 1200 RPM or more for 2 minutes. Using scan tool, observe Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 voltage parameter. If reading varies outside 400-500 millivolts range, turn engine off and go to next step. If reading does not vary outside 400-500 millivolts range, go to step 4.
- Turn ignition on. Review and record FAILURE RECORDS data on scan tool. Operate vehicle within FAILURE RECORDS conditions. On scan tool, monitor DTC information. If scan tool indicates DTC P0154 FAILED THIS IGNITION, go to next step. If scan tool display is not as specified, check for an intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Inspect Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 harness connector terminals and wiring harness for damage. If problem is found, repair or replace as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded connections in Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Check for poor, loose or corroded connection at PCM harness connector E-35 terminals No. 14, 54 and 64. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM Red 80-pin harness connector E-35. PCM is located at left rear of engine compartment, near air filter housing. Measure resistance of Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 high signal circuit (Pink wire) between PCM and HO2S. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open circuit or poor connection. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Measure resistance of Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 low signal circuit (Blue wire) between PCM and HO2S. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open or poor connection. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Disconnect Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 4-pin harness connector. Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 is located in right exhaust pipe before catalytic converter. Using fused jumper wires, connect Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 high and low signal circuits to ground. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor Bank 2 HO2S No. 1 voltage parameter. If scan tool display is 0-10 millivolts, go to next step. If display is not as specified, go to step 11.
- Replace Bank 2 HO2S No. 1. Before replacing sensor, verify that cause of sensor failure has been corrected (fuel contamination, improper use of RTV sealant, excessive engine oil consumption, etc.) After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. Use scan tool to clear DTC and verify repair.
