Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Suzuki Esteem. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, go to A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S No. 2 4-pin harness connector. HO2S No. 2 is located in exhaust pipe after catalytic convertor. Measure resistance between HO2S No. 2 pigtail terminals No. 3 (Light Green/Black wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). If resistance is 4-10 ohms at about 68°F (20°C), go to next step. If resistance is not 4-10 ohms at about 68°F (20°C), replace HO2S No. 2. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
- Reconnect HO2S No. 2 harness connector. Turn ignition on. Backprobing at ECM, measure voltage between ground and ECM harness connector C99 terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Black wire). See Figure . If voltage is 10-14 volts, go to step 6 . If voltage is not 10-14 volts, go to next step.
- Check for open or short to ground in Light Green/Black between HO2S No. 2 and ECM harness connector C99. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Also, check for open or short to ground in Black/White wire between HO2S No. 2 and ignition switch. If problem is found, repair as wires are necessary. If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
- Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Backprobing at ECM, measure voltage between ground and ECM harness connector C99 terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Black wire). See Figure . If voltage is 0-1 volt, problem is probably intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 26-pin harness connector C99. ECM is located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure . Check for poor terminal contact at ECM harness connector C99. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
