Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, go to A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S No. 1 4-pin harness connector. HO2S No. 1 is located in exhaust pipe before catalytic convertor. Measure resistance between HO2S No. 1 pigtail terminals No. 3 (Blue/Orange wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). See Figure . If resistance is 2-6 ohms at about 68°F (20°C), go to next step. If resistance is not 2-6 ohms at about 68°F (20°C), replace HO2S No. 1. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
- Reconnect HO2S No. 1 harness connector. Turn ignition on. Backprobing at ECM, measure voltage between ground and ECM harness connector C20 terminal No. 19 (Blue/Orange wire). See Figure . If 10-14 volts are present, go to step 4 . If 10-14 volts are not present, go to next step.
- Check for open, short to ground or poor terminal connections in Blue/Orange wire between HO2S No. 1 and ECM harness connector C20. See Figure and Figure . Also, check for open or poor terminal connection in Black/White wire between HO2S No. 1 and ignition switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
- Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Backprobing at ECM, measure voltage between ground and ECM harness connector C20 terminal No. 19 (Blue/Orange wire). See Figure . If 0-1 volt is present, problem is probably intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If 0-1 volt is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 28-pin harness connector C20. ECM is located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure . Check for poor terminal contact at ECM harness connector C20. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If DTC does not reset, testing is complete.
