Oil Pan and Oil Pump Strainer Removal and Installation: Removal

  1. Remove oil level gauge guide.
  2. Raise vehicle and remove both front wheels.
  3. Remove rack and pinion assembly. Refer to "POWER STEERING GEAR BOX ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION ".
  4. Remove front differential housing (1) with differential (2) from chassis if equipped. Refer to "FRONT DIFFERENTIAL DISMOUNTING AND REMOUNTING ".

  5. Drain engine oil by removing drain plug (3).
  6. Remove lower oil pan according to the following procedure.
    1. Remove lower oil pan bolts and nuts.
    2. Cut sealant indicated by hatched line in the figure using special tool and hammer (1). See Fig 2 .
      CAUTION: Be careful not to damage stud bolts (4) when cutting sealant.

    3. Remove lower oil pan (2) from upper oil pan (1).

  7. Remove oil strainer bracket.
  8. Remove upper oil pan according to the following procedure.
    1. Remove upper oil pan bolts and nuts.
    2. Cut sealant at hatched part as shown in Fig 5 using special tool (A) and hammer as the same manner of step  6 .
      CAUTION: Be careful not to damage bolts (1) and oil pump mating surfaces between upper oil pan (2) and crank case when cutting sealant.

    3. Lower upper oil pan until it stops by way of cross member and oil pump strainer and keep it at that position temporarily.
    4. With wrench inserted between upper oil pan and lower crankcase, and oil pump strainer mounting bolt removed, remove oil pump strainer (1). See Fig 6 .
    5. Remove upper oil pan from temporarily supported position.

  9. Remove oil pan baffle plate from upper oil pan.
