Crankshaft Thrust Play
Measure this play with crankshaft set in cylinder block in the normal manner, that is, with thrust bearing and journal bearing caps installed. Tighten crankcase bolts gradually as follows.
- Tighten all bolts to 42 N.m (4.2 kg-m, 30.5 lb-ft) according to numerical order in Fig 1.
- Loosen all bolts until tightening torque is reduced to 0 in reverse order of tightening.
- In the same manner as in Step 1, tighten them to 42 N.m (4.2 kg-m, 30.5 lb-ft).
- In the same manner as in Step 1 again, tighten them to 60 N.m (6.0 kg-m, 43.5 lb-ft).NOTE: Tighten 10 mm (0.39 in.) thread diameter bolts first (following the order ("1" - "16") shown in Fig 1), then tighten 8 mm (0.31 in.) thread diameter bolts.

Crankcase bolt (10 mm (0.39 in.) thread diameter) (a): Tighten 42 N.m (4.2 kg-m, 30.5 lb-ft), 0 N.m (0 kg-m, 0 lb-ft), 42 N.m (4.2 kg-m, 30.5 lb-ft) and 60 N.m (6.0 kg-m, 43.5 lb-ft) by the specified procedure Crankcase bolt (8 mm (0.31 in.) thread diameter) (b): Tighten 27 N.m (2.7 kg-m, 19.5 lb-ft) by the specified procedure
Use a dial gauge to read displacement in axial (thrust) direction of crankshaft.
If its limit is exceeded, replace thrust bearing with new standard one or oversize one to obtain standard thrust play.

Standard: 0.10 - 0.35 mm (0.0040 - 0.0137 in.)
Limit: 0.38 mm (0.0150 in.)
Thickness of crankshaft thrust bearing
Standard: 2.500 mm (0.984 in.)
Oversize (0.125 mm (0.0049 in.)): 2.563 mm (0.1009 in.)
