Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ON ignition switch (but the engine at stop) and check that MIL lights.

If MIL does not light up, go to "MIL DOES NOT COME ON OR MIL DIMS AT IGNITION SWITCH ON LEAVING ENGINE OFF:  " for troubleshooting.

  2. Start engine and check that MIL turns OFF.

If MIL remains ON, and no DTC is stored in ECM (PCM), go to "MIL REMAINS ON AFTER ENGINE STARTS:  " for troubleshooting.
