1st Timing Chain & Chain Tensioner Removal

- Disconnect negative cable at battery.
- Drain engine oil.
- Drain coolant.
- Remove oil pan and oil pump strainer. See OIL PAN, OIL PUMP STRAINER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- Remove cylinder head cover. See CYLINDER HEAD COVER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- Remove timing chain cover. See TIMING CHAIN COVER REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
- For reinstallation of timing chain, turn crankshaft so that timing marks on cylinder head and cylinder block match with those on sprockets as shown in the figure.
- Remove 2nd timing chain. See 2ND TIMING CHAIN & CHAIN TENSIONER REMOVAL .
- Remove timing chain guide No.1 (1).
- Remove timing chain tensioner adjuster No.1 (2)
- Remove timing chain tensioner (3).
- Remove idler sprocket and 1st timing chain.
- Remove crankshaft timing sprocket.
