Oil Pan & Oil Pump Strainer Removal & Installation: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki XL-7 and 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install new O-ring (1) to lower crankcase as shown in the figure.
  2. Install two new O-rings to oil pump strainer.

  3. Apply sealant "A" to upper oil pan (1) sealing surface area as shown in the figure.

    "A":  Water tight sealant 99000-31250

  4. Place upper oil pan (1) on cross member and suspension member (just beneath lower crankcase). At this point install oil pump strainer.

    Tightening torque 

    Oil pump strainer bolt (a):  11 N.m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 lb-ft)

  5. Install upper oil pan (1) to lower crankcase as follows.
    1. Fit upper oil pan (1) to cylinder block.
    2. Tighten upper oil pan bolts and nuts temporarily by hand.
    3. Tighten upper oil pan bolts and nuts to specified torque by numerical order as shown in figure.

      Tightening torque 

      Upper oil pan bolt (a):  Tighten 11 N. m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 lb-ft) by the specified procedure

      Upper oil pan bolt (b):  Tighten 27 N. m (2.7 kg-m, 19.5 lb-ft) by the specified procedure

      Upper oil pan nut (c):  Tighten 11 N. m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 lb-ft) by the specified procedure

  6. Install bracket (3) to oil pump strainer (2) and upper oil pan (1).

    Tightening torque 

    Oil pump strainer bracket bolt (d):  11 N.m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 lb-ft)

  7. Apply sealant "A" to lower oil pan sealing surface area as shown in the figure.

    "A":  Water tight sealant 99000-31250

  8. Install lower oil pan to upper oil pan as follows.
    1. Fit lower oil pan (1) to upper oil pan.
    2. Tighten lower oil pan bolts and nuts temporarily by hand.
    3. Tighten lower oil pan bolts and nuts to specified torque by numerical order as shown in figure.

      Tightening torque 

      Lower oil pan bolt (e):  Tighten 11 N. m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 lb-ft) by the specified procedure

      Lower oil pan nut (f):  Tighten 11 N. m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 lb-ft) by the specified procedure

  9. Install new gasket (1) and drain plug (2) to oil pan.

    Tightening torque 

    Engine oil drain plug (f):  50 N.m (5.0 kg-m, 36.5 lb-ft)

  10. Install stiffener as follows (for H27 engine).
    1. Temporarily tighten stiffener bolt (1), then other bolt (2).
    2. Tighten stiffener bolt (1), then other bolt (2) to specified torque.

      Tightening torque 

      Stiffener bolt (a):  Tighten 55 N. m (5.5 kg-m, 40.0 lb-ft) by the specified procedure

  11. Install front differential housing according to installation procedure described in DIFFERENTIAL FRONT - H25 ENGINE MODEL or DIFFERENTIAL - FRONT - H27 ENGINE MODEL .
  12. Install rack and pinion assembly. Refer to P/S GEAR BOX ASSEMBLY REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
  13. Refill front differential housing with gear oil if drained, referring to DIFFERENTIAL FRONT - H25 ENGINE MODEL or DIFFERENTIAL - FRONT - H27 ENGINE MODEL .
  14. Install oil level gauge guide with new O-ring.
  15. Refill engine with engine oil .
  16. Check wheel alignment, referring to SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES (Grand Vitara) or SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES (XL-7).
