Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki XL-7. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Turn ignition off. Remove and inspect AIR BAG fuse, located in fuse box under driver-side of instrument panel. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Blue/Red wire between AIR BAG fuse and SDM harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Replace AIR BAG fuse.
- Disconnect SDM connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect SDM connector for proper connection. Secure connector as necessary. If SDM connector is secured, disconnect SDM connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and SDM harness connector terminal No. 4 (Blue/Red wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is 8 volts or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 8 volts, repair open or short in Blue/Red wire between SDM connector and AIR BAG fuse.
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster and disconnect 16-pin connector. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between ground and SDM harness connector terminal No. 2 (Blue wire). If circuit is open, substitute a known-good SDM and retest system. If circuit is not open, repair short to ground in Blue wire between SDM and instrument cluster connector. Reconnect all components. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTICS.
