Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect lower contact coil connector, located at base of steering column. Connect Load Tool (09932-75010) to harness side of lower contact coil. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTC B1022 is current, go to next step. If DTC B1022 is not current, go to step 3.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect load tool. Disconnect SDM connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between SDM connector terminals No. 11 (Green wire) and No. 12 (Green/Red wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 1.2 ohms, substitute a known-good SDM and retest. If resistance is less than 1.2 ohms, repair short between Green and Green/Red wires or between other circuits and Green and Green/Red. See WIRE REPAIR .
- Disconnect load tool and reconnect lower contact coil connector. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect load tool to upper contact coil connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, retrieve DTCs. If DTC B1022 is current, replace contact coil. See CONTACT COIL & COMBINATION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DTC B1022 is not current, replace driver-side air bag module.
- Reconnect all components. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Go to AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTICS.
