Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Set parking brake. Turn ignition on and observe Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). If OIL or BATTERY warning lights illuminate, go to next step. If OIL or BATTERY warning lights do not illuminate, go to step 5.
- Inspect SDM connector. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect lower contact coil connector. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. Inspect electrical connector at rear of Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) for proper connection. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If IPC connector is connected properly, disconnect IPC connector. Connect Load Tool (09932-75010) to lower contact coil connector and passenger-side air bag module connector. Measure resistance between SDM connector terminal No. 9 (Blue wire) and terminal IPC connector terminal No. 7 (Yellow/Green wire). See Figure & Fig 1 . If resistance is 1000 ohms or more, trace and repair open or high resistance in circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, go to next step.
- Remove and inspect AIR BAG warning light bulb. If AIR BAG warning light bulb is okay, go to next step. If bulb is not okay, replace AIR BAG warning light bulb.
- Ensure SDM and IPC connectors are disconnected. Measure voltage between SDM connector terminal No. 9 and ground. If voltage is one volt or less, substitute a known-good SDM and retest system. If voltage is one volt or more, repair short to voltage in Blue or Yellow/Green wires between SDM and IPC.
- Inspect IG. COIL METER fuse. If fuse is okay, repair open circuit in Black/White wire between ignition switch and IPC. If fuse is not okay, go to next step.
- Replace IG. COIL METER fuse. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds. Turn ignition off. If fuse is okay, reinstall fuse. If fuse is not okay, go to next step.
- Disconnect SDM connector. Disconnect lower contact coil connector. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module. Connect Load Tool (09932-75010) to lower contact coil connector and passenger-side air bag module connector. Replace IG. COIL METER fuse. Turn ignition on for 10 seconds. Turn ignition off. If IG. COIL METER fuse is okay, replace SDM with a known-good SDM and retest. If IG. COIL METER fuse is not okay, repair short to ground in Black/White wire between IG. COIL METER fuse and IPC.
