Removal & Installation (Aerio, Esteem & Swift Without Integral Hub)

NOTE: Swift without integral hub has threaded 8mm holes to allow drum removal without removing hub.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheel. Remove brake drum screw.
  2. Ensure parking brake lever is fully released. Remove console box or parking brake lever cover and loosen parking brake cable locking nut. To increase drum-to-shoe clearance, remove plug from back side of backing plate. Insert screwdriver into hole until it contacts shoe hold-down spring. See Figure or Figure . Push screwdriver in and toward front of vehicle, depressing hold-down spring and releasing tension on parking brake lever.
  3. Remove brake drum by inserting two 8-mm bolts through holes in front of drum and alternately tightening bolts. To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust brake shoes and parking brake. See PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
