Contact Coil: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, read air bag service precautions section. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Contact coil is located under steering wheel, in steering column.
  2. Contact coil is in assembly with combination switch. Disconnect battery negative cable. Remove driver-side inflator module. See DRIVER-SIDE INFLATOR MODULE  . Remove steering wheel. See procedures under STEERING WHEEL  . Remove hole cover and knee bolster panel. Remove 5 screws from steering column lower cover. Separate and remove upper and lower covers. Remove 2 trim caps. Unbolt and remove knee bolster from instrument panel.
  3. Remove bands holding contact coil and combination switch wiring harness to steering column. Remove 3 screws. Remove contact coil and combination switch.
