Test Description

Diagnosing DTCs in correct order is important. Failure to diagnose DTCs in order specified may result in extended diagnostic time, incorrect diagnosis and incorrect part replacement.

NOTE: Following step references refer to test step numbers on diagnostic chart. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . For circuit number and wire color identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. This test checks if malfunction is in AIR BAG warning lamp circuit or in instrument cluster power feed.
  2. This test checks for open between instrument cluster and SDM in AIR BAG warning lamp circuit.
  3. This test checks if open is due to bad bulb.
  4. This test checks for open in instrument cluster.
  5. This test checks if malfunction is due to short from AIR BAG warning lamp circuit to B+.
  6. This test checks for open in air bag harness.
  7. This test checks for short to B+ in air bag harness.
  8. This test checks if COMBINATION METER fuse is open.
  9. An open COMBINATION METER fuse would cause lamps of instrument cluster to go off.
  10. This test checks for short to ground in instrument panel harness.
  11. This test checks if malfunction is due to open power feed circuit from COMBINATION METER fuse to 16P connector B/W wire terminal.
