Trouble Codes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Suzuki Esteem. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

All SRS Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are read using flash code diagnostics. Flash code diagnostics can be enabled by connecting a Tech 1 scan tester (with 3000015 adapter and mass storage cartridge) to DLC and selecting proper function. See Figure .

Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) displays DTCs by flashing AIR BAG indicator. Each DTC displayed consists of a number of flashes which represent the first digit, a 2.5 seconds pause and then a number of flashes which represent the second digit of the DTC. Each DTC is flashed once before moving to next one. After all DTCs have been displayed, entire sequence will be repeated until appropriate command is entered into Tech 1.

DTCs are stored in EEPROM and cannot be cleared by disconnecting battery cable. To clear codes, connect a Tech 1 to DLC (with 3000015 adapter and mass storage cartridge), plug power cord into cigarette lighter, and turn ignition switch to ACC or ON. Tech 1 will clear DTCs by alternately grounding terminal Tc and terminal AB of DLC.

NOTE: Failure to follow diagnostic procedures may result in extended diagnostic time and incorrect diagnosis and parts replacement.
