Cleaning & Inspection

  1. Clean all parts with water first, then clean metal parts with alcohol. DO NOT expose rubber parts to alcohol or damage to parts will occur. Inspect caliper bore and piston for wear, damage or rust.
  2. Light rust in caliper bore can be removed with crocus cloth or small wire wheel. Replace piston if rusty. DO NOT reuse caliper piston seal and/or dust boot. Replace any worn or defective parts.
  3. Check slide bushings and boots for wear. On Esteem, if uneven or abnormal bevelled wear was present on brake pads, identify calipers as being either EARLY or LATE style by checking color of lower caliper bushing. If bushing is Yellow, this is EARLY style. Replace upper caliper bushing with Green caliper bushing. If lower caliper bushing is Silver, this is LATE style. Upper bushing does NOT need replacement.
