Ambient Temperature Display Error (Excessively High Or Low, No Change, Or No Display)

Probable cause  :

Ambient temperature sensor unit malfunction or temporary inaccurate display due to the control.

1. BASIC INSPECTION  .

   Before performing the diagnosis, perform basic inspection. Ref. to COMBINATION METER (DIAGNOSTICS)>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>INSPECTION .

   NOTE:

   • Check the battery and its installation condition.
   • Check the related fuse.
   • Visually check that the related connectors are properly connected.

     Also, check the related ground terminal for looseness and corrosion.

   Is the check result OK?

   Yes  : GO TO  2.

   No  : Repair the defective part.

2. CHECK AMBIENT ENVIRONMENT  .
   1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
   2. Check the ambient temperature displayed on the combination meter and the center information display.
   3. Check ambient temperature of the vehicle.
   4. Check the difference between the displayed temperature and ambient temperature.

   Is the displayed temperature excessively higher than the ambient temperature?

   Yes  : GO TO  3.

   No  : GO TO  4.

3. COOL AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR  .
   1. Cool the sensor body by spraying water on the ambient temperature sensor, etc.
   2. Check the ambient temperature displayed on the combination meter and the center information display.
   3. Check ambient temperature of the vehicle.
   4. Check the difference between the displayed temperature and ambient temperature.

   Is the displayed temperature excessively higher than the ambient temperature?

   Yes  : GO TO  4.

   No  : GO TO  7.

4. MEMORY CLEAR OF AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CONTROL  .
   1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
   2. Leave it for 60 minutes or more.
   3. Disconnect the connector from ambient sensor.
   4. Wait for at least 5 seconds.
   5. Connect the connector to the ambient sensor.
   6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
   7. Check the ambient temperature displayed on the combination meter and the center information display.

   Is the displayed temperature excessively lower than the ambient temperature?

   Yes  : GO TO  5.

   No  : GO TO  7.

5. VISUALLY CHECK AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR  .

   Visually check the ambient temperature sensor for dirt or damage. (Do not touch the sensor tip.)

   If there is no dirt or damage on the ambient temperature sensor, go to  A.

   If there is any dirt on the ambient temperature sensor, go to  B.

   If there is any damage on the ambient temperature sensor, go to  C.

   1. GO TO  6.
   2. Clean the sensor, GO TO  4.
   3. Replace the ambient sensor. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AMBIENT SENSOR .

      After replacement, GO TO  7.

6. CHECK AMBIENT SENSOR UNIT  .

   Perform the inspection of ambient sensor unit. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AMBIENT SENSOR>INSPECTION .

   Is the check result OK?

   Yes  : Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.

   After the repair, GO TO  7.

   No  : Replace the ambient sensor. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>AMBIENT SENSOR .

   After replacement, GO TO  7.

7. CHECK REPAIR  .

   Perform operation check to check if the trouble has been solved.

   Is the check result OK?

   Yes  : Finish the diagnosis.

   No  : Perform the diagnosis according to the basic diagnostic procedure. Ref. to COMBINATION METER (DIAGNOSTICS)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .
