Front Seat Heater Does Not Operate (Model Without Seat Ventilation)

  1. CHECK DTC  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Read DTCs of the following items using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to LAN SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .
    • [Air Conditioner]
    • [Cockpit Control]

    Is DTC displayed?

    Yes:  Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs.

    No:  Go to  2.

  2. CHECK CENTER INFORMATION DISPLAY  .

    Select the seat heater switch, and check if the display for seat heater operation mode changes.

    Does the display change?

    Yes:  Go to  3.

    No:  Perform the inspection according to the [Cockpit Control] diagnosis. Ref. to COCKPIT CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .

  3. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION LINE  .

    Inspect LAN system. Ref. to LAN SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  4.

    No:  Perform the inspection according to the diagnosis for LAN system. Ref. to LAN SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .

  4. CHECK OPERATION MODE  .

    Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [Air Conditioner]. Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR>OPERATION .

    • [Seat Heater operation steps (Driver's)]
    • [Seat Heater operation steps (Passenger's)]

    Does the display change corresponding to the seat heater switch operation?

    Yes:  Go to  5.

    No:  Replace the air conditioner control module. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>CONTROL UNIT .

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Check the status (terminal bends, connection status, etc.) of the accessory relay connector (i12), air conditioner control module connectors (i107) (i108), seat connectors (L57) (R57), and seat heater connectors (St27) (St28).

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  6.

    No:  Repair the connector.

  6. IDENTIFY SEATS WITH THE SEAT HEATER NOT FUNCTIONING  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Operate the driver's side and passenger's side seat heaters.
    3. After a predetermined period of time, check if the seat heater is operating.

    Is the side which is not functioning either one of the driver's side or passenger's side only?

    Yes:  Go to  11.

    No:  Go to  7.

  7. CHECK FUSE  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Check the fuse inside the fuse box. Ref. to SEATS>RELAY AND FUSE>INSPECTION>CHECK FUSE .

    Is the fuse blown out?

    Yes:  Replace the appropriate fuse. If the replaced fuse blows out easily, check the harness between the accessory relay and fuse.

    No:  Go to  8.

  8. CHECK ACCESSORY RELAY POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Measure the voltage between terminals.

    Connector & terminal 

    (i12) No. 3 (+) - Chassis ground (?):

    (i12) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (?):

    Is the voltage 10 V or more?

    Yes:  Go to  9.

    No:  Repair the harness between the accessory relay and fuse.

  9. CHECK ACCESSORY RELAY POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Measure the resistance between the terminals.

    Connector & terminal 

    (i12) No. 2 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  10.

    No:  Repair the harness between the accessory relay and fuse.

  10. CHECK RELAY  .

    Check the accessory relay. Ref. to SEATS>RELAY AND FUSE>INSPECTION>CHECK RELAY .

    Is the relay OK?

    Yes:  Go to  11.

    No:  Replace the accessory relay.

  11. CHECK HARNESS  .
    1. Disconnect the air conditioner control module connector.
    2. Disconnect the seat heater connectors of the driver's and passenger's seats.
    3. Measure the resistance between the terminals.

    Connector & terminal 

    Driver's side 

    (St28) No. 1 - (i12) No. 4:

    (St28) No. 2 - (i108) No. 1:

    (i108) No. 2 - Chassis ground:

    Passenger's side 

    (St27) No. 1 - (i12) No. 4:

    (St27) No. 2 - (i108) No. 5:

    (i108) No. 6 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  12.

    No:  Repair or replace the harness.

  12. CHECK THE SEAT HEATER UNIT  .
    1. Disconnect the seat heater unit connector.
    2. Check the continuity between terminals.
    NOTE: Perform measurement with each heater connector disconnected.

      • Type with cushion adjuster

    Is there continuity between the terminals?

    Yes:  Temporary improper operation.

    No:  If no continuity exists, replace the pad assembly. Ref. to SEATS>FRONT SEAT .
