  1. CHECK ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION  .

Check if any external device which emits strong electromagnetic waves and noises, such as a radio antenna, is installed inside the vehicle.

    Is there an external device?

Yes  : Remove the external device to check the operation.

If the fault is not fixed:

    Go to  2.

    No  : Go to  2.

  2. CHECK BATTERY  .

Check the battery. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DOTC)>BATTERY>INSPECTION

    Is the check result OK?

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes  : Go to  4.

No  : Engage the connector properly, or repair the faulty portion and check the operation.

  4. CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT  .
    1. Disconnect the connector from the combination meter.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Use a tester to measure the voltage between the combination meter connector and chassis ground.
      NOTE:

Because a temporary open or short circuit may be the cause, shake the harness during this check process.

      Connector & terminal

      (i97) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      (i97) No. 2 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 9 - 16 V?

    Yes  : Go to  5.

No  : Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.

  5. CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT (OPEN)  .

Use a tester to measure the resistance between the combination meter connector and ground.

    NOTE:

Because a temporary open or short circuit may be the cause, shake the harness during this check process.

    Connector & terminal

    (i97) No. 40 - Chassis ground:

Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

Yes  : Replace the combination meter. Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER

No  : Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.
