Heater Heating And Cooling Fan Drive Test

CAUTION:
  • To ensure the defogging performance for the camera-front window, when the windshield glass, stereo camera or lens hood has been replaced, removed or installed, always perform the heater heating and cooling fan drive test.
  • Confirm that the adjustment and inspection of the stereo camera are completed before performing the heater heating and cooling fan drive test.
  • If the EyeSight system is faulty, the heater heating and cooling fan drive test cannot be started. Perform it while the EyeSight system is normal.
  • Be careful when checking the heater since it may be hot. Be careful during the operation since it may be difficult to recognize temperature rise on the windshield glass and cover EyeSight surface.
  • Do not touch the cooling fan since it rotates during the heater heating and cooling fan drive test.
  1. CHECK TEST STATUS  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Using Subaru Select Monitor, display [Defroster Test Status] in [Data monitor] of [EyeSight]. Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR

    Is [OK] displayed?

    Yes  : Go to  2.

    No  : Go to  4.

  2. CHECK HEATER OPERATION  .

Using the Subaru Select Monitor, display the following items in the [Data monitor] of [EyeSight]. Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR

    • [Heater Temperature Status]
    • [Heater ON/OFF Status]

Does [Heater ON/OFF Status] turn to [ON] within 3 minutes and does the temperature displayed in [Heater Temperature Status] rise according to the status?

    Yes  : Go to  3.

    No  : Go to  4.

  3. CHECK HEATER OPERATION  .

Check if the heater generates heat.

Are the heaters RH and LH generating heat?

Yes  : The heater is normal.

No  : Check the lens hood RH connectors and terminals for poor contact. If there is no fault, replace the lens hood.

  4. PREPARE VEHICLE AND CHECK HEATER  .
    1. Park the vehicle in a location, such as indoor and shade where sunlight does not reach with temperature at around 0 - 30°C (32 - 86°F).
    2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    3. Leave the vehicle for 30 minutes or more to naturally cool down the heater.
      NOTE:

Do not cool down the heater locally. Doing so may interfere with the diagnostics.

Is [Heater + Fan Compulsory Drive Finished] displayed and are the heaters RH and LH generating heat?

    Yes  : Go to  6.

    No  : Go to  5.

  5. CHECK HEATER  .

Follow the procedures below for inspection.

    • When [Heater + fan compulsory drive conditions not met] is displayed, go to  A.
    • When [Heater temperature upper limit exceeded] is displayed, go to  B.
    • When [Heater compulsory heating error] is displayed, go to  C.
    • When the heater on one side does not generate heat even if the process ended successfully, go to  D.
    1. Check if the diagnostic trouble code is detected. Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
    2. It is possible that the heater was not cooled down sufficiently. Prepare the vehicle and check the heater again. Go to  4.
    3. Check if the diagnostic trouble code is detected. Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
    4. Check the lens hood RH connectors and terminals for poor contact. If there is no fault, replace the lens hood.
  6. CHECK COOLING FAN  .

Read the DTC of [EyeSight] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to COMMON (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)

Is DTC B28C7 (fan motor speed) displayed?
