Knee Airbag Module: Installation

CAUTION:
  • Refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" before handling the airbag system components. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  • Do not allow harness and connectors to interfere or get tangled up with other parts. They could cause poor continuity.
  1. Before installation, inspect the following items and replace any faulty part with a new one.
    • Knee airbag module is cracked or deformed.
    • Claw portion of the metallic case of knee airbag module is not aligned with the plastic cover.
    • Knee airbag module bracket is cracked or deformed.
    • Harness and/or connector is cracked, deformed or open.
    • Harness wire is exposed.
    • Depending on the condition of the beam steering COMPL, installation of the knee airbag module is difficult.
  2. Install the knee airbag module.

    Tightening torque: 

    7.5 N.m (0.8 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb)

  3. Connect the airbag connector. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>AIRBAG CONNECTOR>PROCEDURE>KNEE AIRBAG MODULE, CURTAIN AIRBAG MODULE, DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE, FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER & ADAPTIVE FORCE LIMITER (PASSENGER'S SIDE) .
  4. Install the cover LWR driver OUT and cover LWR driver INN. Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER COVER>INSTALLATION .
  5. Connect the ground terminal to battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
