Diagnostic Procedure for Subaru Select Monitor Communication: Inspection
Detecting condition:
- Defective harness connector
- Power supply circuit malfunction
- Defective cockpit control module
- Defective CAN communication circuit
- Defective Subaru Select Monitor
Trouble symptom:
Communication is impossible between the cockpit control module and the Subaru Select Monitor.
Wiring diagram:
- Audio and navigation system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>AUDIO AND NAVIGATION SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .
- CAN communication system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .
- CHECK IGNITION SWITCH
.
Check the ignition switch.
Is the ignition switch ON?
Yes: Go to 2.
No: Turn the ignition switch to ON, and select the [Cockpit Control] using the Subaru Select Monitor.
- CHECK BATTERY
.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Measure the battery voltage. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO)>BATTERY>INSPECTION .
Is the voltage 10 V or more?
Yes: Go to 3.
No: Charge or replace the battery. And then, restart the Subaru Select Monitor.
- CHECK BATTERY TERMINAL
.
Check the battery terminal for poor contact.
Is there poor contact at battery terminal?
Yes: Replace or tighten the battery terminal.
No: Go to 4.
- CHECK CONNECTOR
.
Check the connecting condition of the cockpit control module connector.
Is the connector connected securely?
Yes: Go to 5.
No: Connect the connector securely. Or repair the poor contact of connector.
- CHECK LAN SYSTEM
.
Check the LAN system. Ref. to LAN SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .
Is the check result OK?
Yes: Go to 6.
No: Perform the inspection according to the diagnosis for LAN system. Ref. to LAN SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .
- CHECK COCKPIT CONTROL MODULE
.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Communicate with [Cockpit Control] using the Subaru Select Monitor.
Is communication possible?
Yes: The circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
NOTE: In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause. No: Go to 7.
- CHECK SUBARU SELECT MONITOR COMMUNICATION
.
Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to another vehicle to check whether the communication for initializing can be executed normally.
Does the Subaru Select Monitor communicate normally?
Yes: Go to 8.
No: Repair or replace the Subaru Select Monitor.
- CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON. (Engine OFF)
- Using the tester, measure the ignition power supply voltage between cockpit control module connector and chassis ground.

(i102) No. 4 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
(i102) No. 9 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
Is the voltage 10 - 16 V?
Yes: Go to 9.
No: Repair the open circuit in the harness between the cockpit control module and the battery.
- CHECK CONNECTOR
.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Check for poor contact of connector.
Is there poor contact of cockpit control module power supply, ground circuit and data link connector?
