The Screen Is Blacked Out, Or The Screen Is Not Displayed

Probable cause: 

Power supply circuit malfunction, illumination circuit malfunction, unit body malfunction

Wiring diagram: 

Combination meter system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>COMBINATION METER SYSTEM .

  1. CHECK FUSE  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Check fuse No. 11 in the main fuse box and fuse No. 30 in the fuse and relay box. Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>COMBINATION METER SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  2.

    No:  Replace the fuse. If the fuse is blown again, check or replace the short circuit of the power supply harness.

  2. CHECK RESTARTING DISPLAY  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Wait for at least 10 minutes after the combination display turned off.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    Is the screen properly displayed?

    Yes:  The circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis.

    No:  Go to  3.

  3. CHECK BATTERY  .

    Check the battery. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO)>BATTERY>INSPECTION .

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  4.

    No:  Charge or replace the battery. Ref. to STARTING/CHARGING SYSTEMS (H4DO)>BATTERY .

  4. CHECK CONNECTOR  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Check the connecting condition of the combination meter connector.

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  5.

    No:  Connect the connector securely. Or repair the poor contact of connector.

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR  .

    Check if the connector is connected to the combination meter and there is poor contact in the connector.

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  6.

    No:  Reconnect, repair, or replace the harness.

  6. CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT  .
    1. Disconnect the connector from the combination meter.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Use a tester to measure the voltage between the combination meter connector and chassis ground.

      Connector & terminal 

      (i97) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      (i97) No. 2 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 10 - 16 V?

    Yes:  Go to  7.

    No:  Repair or replace the harness.

  7. CHECK FUSE  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Check fuse No. 24 in the main fuse box, and fuses No. 9 and 33 in the fuse and relay box. Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>AUDIO AND NAVIGATION SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  8.

    No:  Replace the fuse. If the replaced fuse blows out easily, repair the ground short circuit in the harness between the cockpit control module and fuse.

  8. CHECK COCKPIT CONTROL MODULE  .

    Read the DTC of [Cockpit Control] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to COCKPIT CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    Are any DTCs displayed? (Current code)

    Yes:  Go to  9.

    No:  Replace the cockpit control module. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>COCKPIT DISPLAY>REMOVAL .

  9. CHECK COMBINATION METER  .

    Read the DTC of [Combination Meter] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to COMBINATION METER (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    Are any DTCs displayed? (Current code)

    Yes:  Go to  1.

    Then, if a malfunction occurs, replace the cockpit control module and the combination meter. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>COCKPIT DISPLAY>REMOVAL . Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER .

    No:  Replace the combination meter. Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER .
