DTC B2909: Steering Responsive Headlight Actuator LH
DTC detecting condition:
Fail flag (failures shown below) of the SRH actuator is detected for 1 second or more.
- Overheating of the actuator driving IC is detected.
- Short circuit, open circuit of the motor coil is detected.
- Abnormality of the motor position sensor is detected.
- Motor lock is detected.
Trouble symptom:
The steering responsive headlight does not operate. SRH indicator blinks.
- Initialization is required after replacing the auto headlight beam leveler Control Module.
- After replacing the headlight assembly, headlight beam adjustment is required.
Wiring diagram:
Headlight beam leveler system. Refer to WIRING SYSTEM>HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .
- CHECK DTC.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Start the engine.
- Using the Subaru Select Monitor, clear the auto headlight beam leveler system memory. Refer to AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>CLEAR MEMORY MODE .
- Use the Subaru Select Monitor and read DTCs. Refer to AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .
Is DTC B2909 displayed? (Current malfunction)
Yes: Go to 2.
No: Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
NOTE: In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.
- CHECK OTHER DTCS.
Check whether or not other DTCs are stored in the auto headlight beam leveler system.
Are DTCs other than DTC B2909 stored?
Yes: Perform the diagnosis for DTC other than B2909 first.
No: Go to 3.
- CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT).
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Disconnect the headlight assembly LH and RH connectors.
- Disconnect the auto headlight beam leveler Control Module connector.
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between auto headlight beam leveler Control Module connector and headlight assembly LH connector.
Connector & terminal
(B150) No. 7 - (F125) No. 14:
(B150) No. 9 - (F125) No. 15:
Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?
Yes: Go to 4.
No: Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.
- CHECK HARNESS (GROUND SHORT CIRCUIT).
Using a tester, measure the resistance between the auto headlight beam leveler Control Module connector and chassis ground.

(B150) No. 9 - Chassis ground:
Is the resistance 1 Ω or more?
Yes: Go to 5.
No: Repair or replace the short circuit of the harness.
- CHECK HARNESS (SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER SUPPLY).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Using a tester, measure the voltage between auto headlight beam leveler Control Module connector and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(B150) No. 7 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
(B150) No. 9 (+) - Chassis ground (-):
Is the voltage less than 1 V?
Yes: Go to 6.
No: Repair or replace the short circuit of the harness.
- CHECK FORCED OPERATION OF SWIVEL ACTUATOR.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Connect all the disconnected connectors.
- Start the engine.
- Perform «Left Steering Responsive Headlight» using the Subaru Select Monitor. Refer to AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM (DIAGNOSTICS)>ACTIVE TEST .
Is the actuator current position value approximately the same as the input value of the actuator control position?
Yes: Replace the auto headlight beam leveler Control Module. Refer to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE .
No: Replace the headlight assembly LH. Refer to LIGHTING SYSTEM>HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY .
