Side Impact Sensor (Center Pillar)

CAUTION:
  • Refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" before handling the airbag system components. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  • Side impact sensor (under the rear center seat) for the airbag system is located under the front center of the rear seat cushion. Be careful not to apply strong impact to the sensor when working with the rear seat cushion removed.
  1. Move the seat on the side where Side impact sensor (center pillar) will be removed to the front-most position.
    NOTE: This is to remove the seat belt retractor assembly.
  2. Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, and wait for at least 60 seconds before starting work. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
  3. Remove the cover side sill front Rr, the cover side sill rear UPR, and the trim panel assembly B pillar LWR. (Side where Side impact sensor (center pillar) will be removed) Ref. to EXTERIOR/INTERIOR TRIM>LOWER INNER TRIM>REMOVAL .
  4. Remove the seat belt retractor. (Side where Side impact sensor (center pillar) will be removed)
    1. Turn over the floor mat to disconnect the following connectors. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>AIRBAG CONNECTOR>PROCEDURE>DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE, FRONT SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND CURTAIN AIRBAG MODULE .
      • Front seat belt pretensioner
      • Adaptive force limiter
      • Lap pretensioner (driver's side only)

    2. Remove the bolt to remove the seat belt retractor.

  5. Remove the nut, and then remove Side impact sensor (center pillar).
