Seat Ventilation Does Not Operate In Ex-High

Trouble symptom: 

The blower speed (air flow) of the air conditioner is [Max] and the seat ventilation is set to [HIGH], but the seat ventilation does not operate at [EX-HIGH].

Trouble causes:

Seat ventilation system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>SEAT VENTILATION SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .

Seat heater system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>SEAT HEATER SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .

CAUTION: Before performing diagnosis, refer to "CAUTION" in "General Description". Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>General Description>CAUTION .
  1. CHECK SEAT VENTILATION SWITCH DISPLAY  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Touch the seat indicator on the center information display.
    3. Check if the seat ventilation switch is displayed under the seat heater switch.

      Is the seat ventilation switch displayed?

      Yes:  Go to  2 .

      No:  Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON>INSPECTION>SEAT VENTILATION SWITCH IS NOT DISPLAYED .

  2. CHECK DATA MONITOR  .
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Operate the seat ventilation at [HIGH] with the blower speed (air flow) of the air conditioner set at [Max].
    3. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data monitor] of [Ventilation Seat]. Ref. to Ventilation Seat (Diagnostics)>Data Monitor .
      • Seat Ventilation Operation Steps(Driver's)
      • Seat Ventilation Operation Steps(Passenger's)

      Is it operating at [EX-HIGH]?

      Yes:  The circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.

      NOTE: In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.

      No:  Go to  3 .

  3. CHECK DTC  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Read the following DTCs using Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to Ventilation Seat (Diagnostics)>Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) . Ref. to BODY CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) . Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) . Ref. to COCKPIT CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .
      • Ventilation Seat
      • Body Control
      • Air Conditioner
      • Cockpit Control

      Are any DTCs displayed?

      Yes:  Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs. Ref. to Ventilation Seat (Diagnostics)>Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) . Ref. to BODY CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) . Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) . Ref. to COCKPIT CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

      No:  Go to  4 .

  4. CHECK CONNECTOR  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Check connecting condition of the seat ventilation control module connector (St41), A/C control module connectors (i107) (i108), seat connectors (L57) (R57), coupling connectors (B43) (L51) (R51) (St21) (St22), and blower connectors (St71) (St72).

      Is the check result OK?

      Yes:  Go to  5 .

      No:  Repair the connector.

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR  .

    Check malfunctions (terminal bends, etc.) of the driver's side seat connector (L57) and passenger's side seat connector (R57).

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  6 .

    No:  Repair the connector.

  6. CHECK CENTER INFORMATION DISPLAY  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Touch the passenger's side seat ventilation switch on the center information display, and check if the display for passenger's side seat ventilation operation mode changes.

      Does the display change?

      Yes:  Go to  7 .

      No:  Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON>INSPECTION>DISPLAY DOES NOT CHANGE ALONG WITH SEAT VENTILATION SWITCH OPERATION .

  7. CHECK OPERATION MODE  .
    1. Touch the passenger's side seat ventilation switch on the center information display.
    2. Check if the passenger's side ventilation operation mode changes.

      Does the operation mode change?

      Yes:  Go to  8 .

      No:  Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON>INSPECTION>PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT VENTILATION LEVEL DOES NOT CHANGE (DISPLAY CHANGES, BUT OPERATION DOES NOT CHANGE) .

  8. CHECK SEAT VENTILATION  .
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Turn the seat ventilation ON.
    3. Check if both blowers for backrest and cushion on the passenger's side are operating.

      Are both the backrest side and cushion side operating?

      Yes:  Go to  9 .

      No:  Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON>INSPECTION>BLOWER ON ONE SIDE (BACKREST SIDE OR CUSHION SIDE) DOES NOT OPERATE .

  9. CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the passenger's side seat connector (St1) and seat ventilation control module connector (St41).
    3. Using the tester, measure the resistance between terminals.

      Connector and terminal 

      (St41) No. 5 - (St1) No. 11:

      (St41) No. 14 - (St1) No. 13:

      Is the resistance less than 5 Ω?

      Yes:  Go to 10.

      No:  Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.

  10. CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    1. Disconnect the driver's side seat connector (L57) and passenger's side seat connector (R57).
    2. Using the tester, measure the resistance between terminals.

      Connector and terminal 

      (L57) No. 11 - (R57) No. 11:

      (L57) No. 13 - (R57) No. 13:

      Is the resistance less than 5 Ω?

      Yes:  Go to  11 .

      No:  Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.

  11. CHECK CENTER INFORMATION DISPLAY  .
    1. Connect all connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Start the engine.
    4. Touch the driver's side seat ventilation switch on the center information display, and check if the display for driver's side seat ventilation operation mode changes.

      Does the display change?

      Yes:  Go to  12 .

      No:  Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON>INSPECTION>DISPLAY DOES NOT CHANGE ALONG WITH SEAT VENTILATION SWITCH OPERATION .

  12. CHECK OPERATION MODE  .
    1. Touch the driver's side seat ventilation switch on the center information display.
    2. Check if the driver's side ventilation operation mode changes.

      Does the operation mode change?

      Yes:  Go to  13 .

      No:  Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON>INSPECTION>DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT VENTILATION LEVEL DOES NOT CHANGE (DISPLAY CHANGES, BUT OPERATION DOES NOT CHANGE) .

  13. CHECK SEAT VENTILATION  .
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Turn the seat ventilation ON.
    3. Check if both blowers for backrest and cushion on the driver's side are operating.

      Are both the backrest side and cushion side operating?

      Yes:  Go to  14 .

      No:  Ref. to VENTILATION SEAT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTICS WITH PHENOMENON>INSPECTION>BLOWER ON ONE SIDE (BACKREST SIDE OR CUSHION SIDE) DOES NOT OPERATE .

  14. CHECK SEAT VENTILATION  .
    1. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Active Test] of [Ventilation Seat]. Ref. to Ventilation Seat (Diagnostics)>Active Test .
      • Driver's Seat Ventilation
      • Passenger's Seat Ventilation
      NOTE: With the data monitor setting, display [Seat Ventilation Operation Steps(Driver's)] and [Seat Ventilation Operation Steps(Passenger's)].
    2. Select [EX-HIGH], and check the display of the data monitor screen.

      Is it operating at [EX-HIGH]?

      Yes:  Replace the A/C control module. Ref. to AIR CONDITIONER>CONTROL UNIT .

      No:  Replace the seat ventilation control module. Ref. to SEATS>SEAT VENTILATION SYSTEM .
