DTC B224A: Backup Camera

DTC detecting condition: 

Detected when the synchronization error occurs in the condition of the picture input.

Trouble symptom: 

Camera image does not appear.

CAUTION: Before performing diagnosis, refer to "CAUTION" in "General Description". Ref. to INFOTAINMENT (DIAGNOSTICS)>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  1. CHECK DATA MONITOR  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [Infotainment]. Ref. to INFOTAINMENT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR .
    • Rear camera connection state

    Is [ON] displayed?

    Yes:  Go to  2.

    No:  Go to  3.

  2. CHECK DATA MONITOR  .

    Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [Infotainment]. Ref. to INFOTAINMENT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR .

    • Reverse connection state

    Is [ON] displayed when the shift lever is set to the reverse range?

    Yes:  Go to  3.

    No:  Go to  6.

  3. CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the audio connector or navigation unit connector.
    3. Disconnect the rearview camera connector.
    4. Using the tester, measure the resistance of harness between rearview camera connector and audio connector or navigation unit connector.

      Connector and terminal 

      Impreza model (4 door model) 

      (i146) No. 1 - (R357) No. 5:

      (i146) No. 2 - (R357) No. 6:

      (i146) No. 3 - (R357) No. 4:

      (i146) No. 4 - (R357) No. 3:

      Impreza model (5 door model) or Crosstrek model 

      (i146) No. 1 - (D16) No. 5:

      (i146) No. 2 - (D16) No. 6:

      (i146) No. 3 - (D16) No. 4:

      (i146) No. 4 - (D16) No. 3:

      Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  4.

    No:  Repair the open circuit of harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and rearview camera.

  4. CHECK HARNESS (GROUND SHORT CIRCUIT)  .

    Using the tester, measure the resistance of harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and chassis ground.

    Connector and terminal 

    (i146) No. 1 - Chassis ground:

    (i146) No. 2 - Chassis ground:

    (i146) No. 3 - Chassis ground:

    (i146) No. 4 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance 1 MΩ or more?

    Yes:  Go to  5.

    No:  Repair the ground short circuit of the harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and rearview camera.

  5. CHECK HARNESS (SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER SUPPLY)  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Using the tester, measure the voltage between audio connector or navigation unit connector and chassis ground. (With each connector disconnected)

      Connector and terminal 

      (i146) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      (i146) No. 2 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      (i146) No. 3 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      (i146) No. 4 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage less than 1 V?

    Yes:  Except for hybrid model, Go to  6. For hybrid model, Go to  7.

    No:  Repair the short circuit to power supply in the harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and rearview camera.

  6. CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the audio connector or navigation unit connector.
    3. Disconnect the inhibitor switch connector.
    4. Using the tester, measure the resistance of the harness between inhibitor switch connector or back-up light switch connector and audio connector or navigation unit connector.

      Connector and terminal 

      CVT model (except for Crosstrek model) 

      (i87) No. 2 - (T7) No. 7:

      CVT model (Crosstrek model) 

      (i87) No. 2 - (T7) No. 2:

      MT model 

      (i87) No. 2 - (T13) No. 2:

    Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  8.

    No:  Repair the open circuit of harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and inhibitor switch connector or back-up light switch connector.

  7. CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the audio connector or navigation unit connector.
    3. Disconnect the relay holder connector.
    4. Using a tester, measure the resistance of harness between relay holder connector and navigation unit connector.

      Connector and terminal 

      (i87) No. 2 - (B649) No. 2:

    Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  8.

    No:  Repair the open circuit in the harness between the relay holder connector and navigation unit connector.

  8. CHECK HARNESS (GROUND SHORT CIRCUIT)  .

    Using the tester, measure the resistance of harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and chassis ground.

    Connector and terminal 

    (i87) No. 2 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance 1 MΩ or more?

    Yes:  Go to  9.

    No:  Repair the ground short circuit of the harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and inhibitor switch connector or back-up light switch connector.

  9. CHECK HARNESS (SHORT CIRCUIT TO POWER SUPPLY)  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Using the tester, measure the voltage between audio connector or navigation unit connector and chassis ground. (With each connector disconnected)

      Connector and terminal 

      (i87) No. 2 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage less than 1 V?

    Yes:  Go to  10.

    No:  Repair the short circuit to power supply in the harness between audio connector or navigation unit connector and inhibitor switch connector or backup light switch connector.

  10. CHECK REARVIEW CAMERA  .

    Check the rearview camera according to the instructions of rearview camera operation service information.

    Is there any fault?

    Yes:  Replace the rearview camera. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>CAMERA .

    No:  Replace the audio or navigation unit. Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>AUDIO . Ref. to ENTERTAINMENT & MONITORING>NAVIGATION BODY .
