The Auto Headlight Beam Leveler Does Not Operate

Detecting condition: 

Malfunction of power supply circuit, output circuit, and auto headlight beam leveler control module

Wiring diagram: 

Headlight beam leveler system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM (IMPREZA MODEL)>HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM . Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM (CROSSTREK MODEL (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM . Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM (CROSSTREK MODEL (HEV))>HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .

CAUTION:
  1. CHECK INDICATOR  .

    Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    Does the headlight beam leveler indicator blink?

    Yes:  Perform the auto headlight beam leveler control module initialization/reinitialization. Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM>PROCEDURE .

    No:  Go to  2.

  2. CHECK DATA MONITOR  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [Headlight/Foglight]. Ref. to HEADLIGHT / FOGLIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR .
    • ECU ACC

    Does the data monitor indicate the standard value?

    Yes:  Go to  4.

    No:  Go to  3.

  3. CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN IG POWER SUPPLY - AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the auto headlight beam leveler control module connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage between the auto headlight beam leveler control module connector and chassis ground.

      Connector and terminal 

      MT model 

      (B616) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      Except for MT model 

      (B616) No. 1 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      (B616) No. 3 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 8 - 16 V?

    Yes:  Replace the auto headlight beam leveler control module. Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE .

    No:  Repair or replace the harness.

  4. CHECK INDICATOR  .

    Turn the ignition switch OFF → ON.

    Does the warning indicator turn on for three seconds?

    Yes:  Go to  5.

    No:  Check the combination meter. Ref. to COMBINATION METER (DIAGNOSTICS)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE>PROCEDURE .

  5. CHECK INDICATOR  .

    Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

    Does the warning indicator light go off?

    Yes:  Go to  6.

    No:  Go to  10.

  6. CHECK HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (ACTUATOR) DRIVE  .
    1. Connect the auto headlight beam leveler control module connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON, and within 10 seconds, repeat the OFF → Low beam of headlight switch 5 times.
    3. Check that the headlight beam drops once, then returns to normal.
    4. Then, after waiting for 30 seconds or more with the ignition ON, turn the ignition switch to OFF.

    Does the headlight beam drop down once, and then return?

    Yes:  Replace the auto headlight beam leveler control module. Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE .

    No:  Go to  7.

  7. CHECK HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (ACTUATOR) OUTPUT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [Headlight/Foglight]. Ref. to HEADLIGHT / FOGLIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR .
      • Actuator Signal
    3. Turn the ignition switch to OFF → ON, and within 10 seconds, repeat the OFF → Low beam of headlight switch 5 times.
    4. Check that the headlight beam drops once, then returns to normal.
    5. Then, after waiting for 30 seconds or more with the ignition ON, turn the ignition switch to OFF.

    Does the data monitor indicate the standard value? (Does the value change at 10 - 90 %?)

    Yes:  Go to  8.

    No:  Replace the auto headlight beam leveler control module. Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE .

  8. CHECK OUTPUT VOLTAGE BETWEEN HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (ACTUATOR)  .
    1. Disconnect the auto headlight beam leveler control module connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between the auto headlight beam leveler control module connector and chassis ground.

      Connector and terminal 

      MT model 

      (B616) No. 10 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      Except for MT model 

      (B616) No. 6 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 8 - 16 V?

    Yes:  Replace the headlight assembly. Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY .

    No:  Go to  9.

  9. CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE AND HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (ACTUATOR)  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the connector of headlight assembly.
    3. Measure the continuity between the auto headlight beam leveler control module connector and headlight assembly (actuator) connector.

      • Headlight beam leveler RH 

        (B616) No. 10 - (B487) No. 10:

        (B616) No. 17 - (B487) No. 11:

        (B616) No. 11 - (B487) No. 12:

      • Headlight beam leveler LH 

        (B616) No. 10 - (B477) No. 10:

        (B616) No. 17 - (B477) No. 11:

        (B616) No. 11 - (B477) No. 12:

      Except for MT model 

      • Headlight beam leveler RH 

        (B616) No. 6 - (B487) No. 10:

        (B616) No. 9 - (B487) No. 11:

        (B616) No. 7 - (B487) No. 12:

      • Headlight beam leveler LH 

        (B616) No. 6 - (B477) No. 10:

        (B616) No. 9 - (B477) No. 11:

        (B616) No. 7 - (B477) No. 12:

    Is there continuity?

    Yes:  Replace the auto headlight beam leveler control module. Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE .

    No:  Repair the open circuit or poor contact of the connector in the harness between headlight assembly and auto headlight beam leveler control module.

  10. CHECK DTC  .

    Read the DTC of [Headlight/Foglight] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to HEADLIGHT / FOGLIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    Is DTC displayed? (Current malfunction)

    Yes:  Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs. Ref. to HEADLIGHT / FOGLIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)>LIST .

    No:  Replace the auto headlight beam leveler control module. Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER CONTROL MODULE .
