CAUTION: Use CHECK BOARD when measuring the TCM terminal voltage and resistance. After servicing or replacing faulty parts, perform the last step of the basic diagnostic procedure. Ref. to TRANSMISSION (DIAGNOSTICS) (IMPREZA MODEL)>BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
  1. CHECK HARNESS  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the TCM connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage between TCM connectors.

      Connector & terminal

      (T10) No. 6 (+) - (T10) No. 1 (-):

Is the voltage 5 V or more?

Yes:  Repair the short circuit of harness.

    No:  Go to  2.

  2. CHECK ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Measure the resistance between TCM connector terminals.

      Connector & terminal

      (T10) No. 1 - (T10) No. 6:

Is the resistance 1 MΩ or more?

Yes:  Repair the open circuit of transmission harness.

    No:  Go to  3.

  3. CHECK ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR  .
    1. Connect the connector to TCM.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Warm up until the ATF temperature exceeds 50°C (122°F).
    4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    5. Disconnect the TCM connector.
    6. Measure the resistance between TCM connector terminals.

      Connector & terminal

      (T10) No. 1 - (T10) No. 6:

    Is the resistance 650 - 990 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  4.

    No:  Go to  6.

  4. CHECK ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR  .

Measure the resistance between TCM connector terminals.

    Connector & terminal

    (T10) No. 1 - (T10) No. 6:

Does the resistance value increase gradually while the ATF temperature decreases?

    Yes:  Go to  5.

No:  Replace the control valve body. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>CONTROL VALVE BODY .

  5. CHECK INPUT SIGNAL FOR TCM  .
    1. Connect the connector to TCM.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON. (Do not start engine.)
    3. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, read data of [ATF Temp.] in the [Data Monitor] of [Transmission]. Ref. to TRANSMISSION (DIAGNOSTICS) (IMPREZA MODEL)>DATA MONITOR .

Does the ATF temperature gradually decrease?

Yes:  Check for poor contact of the ATF temperature sensor and TCM connector harness, and repair the defective part.

    No:  Go to  6.

  6. CHECK FOR POOR CONTACT  .

Is there poor contact of ATF temperature sensor circuit?

    Yes:  Repair the poor contact.

No:  Replace the TCM. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) .
