Transfer Clutch Pressure Test: Inspection

  1. Lift up the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the rear exhaust pipe from the front exhaust pipe.

  3. Remove the center exhaust cover.

  4. Remove the crossmember support - rear LH.

  5. Set the transmission jack under the transmission.
  6. Remove the mounting bolt of rear crossmember.

  7. Lower the rear side of the transmission, and set the ST at four positions in the rear crossmember.

    Preparation tool: 

    ST: ADAPTER (18362AA020)

  8. Install the rear crossmember with M10 x 30 mm bolts.
    CAUTION: Be careful not to use longer bolts than the specified length. Those bolts may interfere with the floor panel.

  9. Using the ST, remove the transfer clutch pressure test plug.

    Preparation tool: 

    ST: SOCKET (18270AA040)

  10. Set the ST1 and ST2 to the transmission.
    NOTE:
    • Use ST1 with genuine union screw (Part No. 801914010) and gasket (Part No. 803914060) attached  .
    • Use the ST2 with genuine O-ring (part No. 806908150) attached  .

    Preparation tool: 

    ST1: ADAPTER PRESSURE GAUGE (18681AA050)

    ST2: OIL PRESSURE GAUGE ASSY (498575400)

  11. Temporarily tighten the front exhaust pipe and rear exhaust pipe.

  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor and read the current data.
  14. Check the transfer clutch pressure as in secondary pressure (line pressure) test. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 IMPREZA)>SECONDARY PRESSURE (LINE PRESSURE) TEST .
    NOTE:

  15. Lift up the vehicle.
  16. Remove the ST.
  17. Install the test plug using ST1 and ST2.
    NOTE:
    • Use new O-rings  .
    • Apply CVTF to the O-rings  .
    • Tighten the test plug while directly aligning ST2 and torque wrench  .

    Preparation tool: 

    ST1: SOCKET (18270AA040)

    ST2: SPECIAL TOOL CONDENSER (73099SG000)

    Tightening torque: 

    Calculation formula

    T = L/(100 mm (3.94 in) + L) x 22 N.m (2.2 kgf-m, 16.2 ft-lb)

    T: Tightening torque

    L: Effective length of torque wrench

    NOTE: If the effective length of the torque wrench used is unknown, consult the manufacturer of the torque wrench.

    1. Effective length of the ST2
    2. Effective length of the torque wrench
    3. Center of drive square of the ST2
    4. Center of drive square of the torque wrench
    5. Center of the position where a force is applied by hand

  18. Set the transmission jack under the transmission.
  19. Remove the ST (ADAPTER) and M10 x 30 mm bolts from the rear crossmember.
  20. Raise the transmission assembly, and install the rear crossmember.

    Tightening torque: 

    75 N.m (7.6 kgf-m, 55.3 ft-lb)

  21. Install the center exhaust cover.

    Tightening torque: 

    18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)

  22. Install the rear exhaust pipe to the front exhaust pipe.
    NOTE: Use a new gasket.

    Tightening torque: 

    18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.3 ft-lb)

  23. Install the crossmember support - rear LH.

    Tightening torque: 

    70 N.m (7.1 kgf-m, 51.6 ft-lb)

  24. Lower the vehicle.
