IMPREZA Model
- Remove the dust seal - front strut protecting the strut mount connecting area.
- Loosen the self-locking nut of the strut mount connecting area by two turns.NOTE: Loosen the self-locking nut only on the removal side if only one side of the front drive shaft is removed.
- Remove the front wheels. Ref. to WHEEL AND TIRE SYSTEM>TIRE AND WHEEL>REMOVAL .
- Remove the axle nut.CAUTION: Do not loosen the axle nut while the front axle is loaded. Doing so may damage the front hub unit bearing.
- Lift the crimped section of axle nut.
- Remove the axle nut using a socket wrench while depressing the brake pedal.
- Remove the crossmember support - rear.NOTE: Remove the crossmember support - rear only on the removal side if only one side of the front drive shaft is removed.
- Remove the front ABS wheel speed sensor.
- Remove the brake hose bracket.
- Disconnect the stabilizer link.
- Remove the three nuts of the ball joint, and disconnect the front arm assembly from the front axle housing.NOTE:
- To prevent damage of the front arm assembly ball joint boot, place a wooden block, etc. between front arm assembly and ball joint.
- Mark the engaging position of the ball joint and front arm assembly before loosening the flange nuts. Doing so will facilitate aligning the position when assembling and lessen adjusting allowance for wheel alignment.
- Remove the front drive shaft from the front axle housing.NOTE:
- If it is hard to remove, use ST1 and ST2.
- When using the ST1 and ST2, remove the front disc rotor. Ref. to BRAKE>FRONT DISC ROTOR>REMOVAL .
Preparation tool:
ST1: AXLE SHAFT PULLER (926470000)
ST2: AXLE SHAFT PULLER PLATE (28099PA110)
- Using a bar, remove the front drive shaft from transmission.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to allow the bar to damage holder area.
