Rear Drive Shaft: Installation
NOTE:
When the rear drive shaft is removed using the ST, install the rear disc rotor. Ref. to BRAKE>REAR DISC ROTOR
.
- Insert the rear drive shaft into the hub spline, and pull it into the specified position.CAUTION:
- Do not hammer the rear drive shaft when installing it.
- Be careful not to damage the spline portion of the rear drive shaft.
- Be careful not to damage the magnetic encoder.
- Tighten the axle nut temporarily.CAUTION: Be sure to use a new axle nut.
- Install the rear differential. Ref. to DIFFERENTIALS>REAR DIFFERENTIAL (VA-TYPE)>INSTALLATION .
- While depressing the brake pedal, tighten the axle nut.CAUTION: Do not load the rear axle before tightening the axle nut. Doing so may damage the rear hub unit bearing.
Tightening torque:
Impreza model:
240 N.m (24.5 kgf-m, 177 ft-lb)
Crosstrek model:
190 N.m (19.4 kgf-m, 140.1 ft-lb)
- Crimp the axle nut.
- Connect the ground terminal to 12V engine restart battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY
.NOTE: For the hybrid model, connect the battery negative terminal.
- Using the Subaru Select Monitor, exit the brake maintenance mode according to the display screen. Ref. to PARKING BRAKE>PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM>OPERATION>BRAKE MAINTENANCE MODE . (Crosstrek hybrid model)
- After the operation is completed, apply and release the parking brake five times and ensure that the brake operates normally. (Crosstrek hybrid model)
- Install the rear wheels.
Tightening torque:
120 N.m (12.2 kgf-m, 88.5 ft-lb)
- Perform reinitialization of the auto headlight beam leveler system. (MT model) Ref. to LIGHTING SYSTEM>AUTO HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVELER SYSTEM>PROCEDURE .
